For those with some prior VMT experience (individual or group work).

The VMT Drop-In Lab is a weekly online space for supported voice-, breath- and body-work. Each session begins with a 20-minute mini introductory VMT workshop based on the principles and practices of VMT, led by a rotating lineup of registered VMT practitioners (primarily Boston, US-based Mali Sastri). This guided mini workshop leads to 60 minutes of individual practice whereby participants turn off their video cameras and mute their microphones. This practice hour can be used however you see fit — to further explore what was introduced in the mini workshop, for journaling, drawing, songwriting, instrument practice, etc. Each session ends with a 10-minute check-in.

Inspired by Feldenkrais practitioner Eve Boltax’s Somatic Musicians Lab.

What is Voice Lab?

• a space to explore and experiment with the intersections between Voice, Movement, and Psyche

• for anyone – nonsingers to professionals – seeking to discover and recover aspects of the physical as well as metaphorical voice

The voice is a unique and extraordinary instrument ~ player and played-upon are one and the same. Your voice expresses both psychic and physical states and can convey simultaneously both what you mean and how you mean it.

Through guided exploration, improvisatory games, and combined vocal and movement exercises, Mali Sastri leads a workshop grounded in the expressive arts discipline Voice Movement Therapy, aiming to increase vocal flexibility, dexterity, relaxation, confidence and trust in the power of your own authentic voice, and to forge a deeper emotional and psychological connection to the words and sounds you sing and speak.

Bringing years of teaching and performing experience, Mali (a registered VMT practitioner, and singer) provides a safe and supportive environment for exploration and creativity.
